FlemishFlemish rabbits have proved to be a rather difficult thing to find in Australia. The large rabbit seems out of favour so stock is scarce. I remember as a child having a wonderful giant rabbit named Thumper. Not an original name looking back on it but a much loved bunny all the same. She was a beautiful steel grey with ears that measured 6 inches long (according to the 'Rabbit with the Longest Ears' award at the local pet show !). We never got to breed from her as she got sick and died. Flemish Giants are very hard to come by in the British Rabbit Council form. Most of what you find are derivations of the original stock, usually a mix of British Giants, New Zealand and the American Flemish Giant. These are all fine bunnies. Most of the large breeds are excellent tempered and make very good pets. In fact, devotees to the breed would say they are the best pets by far. |
